“My lover spoke and said to me,
“Rise up, my dearest,
my fairest, and go.
Here, the winter is past;
the rains have come and gone.
Blossoms have appeared in the land;
the season of singing has arrived,
and the sound of the turtledove is heard in our land.” -Song of Solomon 2:10-12
The irises are fully in bloom and the trees are turning green again. This new birth of the earth reminds us that God’s creation is designed to begin again. That means we (yes, you are a part of God’s creation!) are designed to begin again, too! In what way do you need a regreening? What winter dust can you shake off to embrace the fresh beams of sunlight?
The beauty of spring is that it is not something that the flowers or grass will to happen. They benefit from the coming of the spring but they do not cause it. So it is with us. We receive the renewing of God’s spirit beaming upon our lives simply as grateful creatures. This is who God is: the Creator who brings new life, again and again, to God’s beloved creations. The Talmud says that every blade of grass has a heavenly messenger whispering over it: “Grow, Grow, Grow!”
Happy first day of spring friends! Grow, grow, grow!
