read: “Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be cleared.” -Isaiah 35:5
reflect: When God comes into the world to act on our behalf, we see things we haven’t seen before and hear things we never heard before. Whether this is physical or spiritual is not a decision we have to make. It can be both, and it can be difficult to separate the two. Our partners in Haiti are aware of many, many people there who are blind due to cataracts, which a simple surgery would correct. When God moves in our lives to respond generously to give to our ministries in Haiti, people who are blind literally see again. This change also happens spiritually. For when we give to help another, do we not see everything in a completely different way? Talk about Joy to the World!
pray: Open our eyes, Lord; we want to see you. Open our ears, Lord; help us to hear you. Amen.
with children: Ask your children to close their eyes. Ask them what they see. Tell them to see if they can “see” with their hearts or minds, even though their eyes are closed. What does their heart tell them that they see?
